The Ideological Foundations of the American Constitutional System

This two-day event is available at no cost to participants and is designed for secondary level teachers. This conference features an exploration of the ideological traditions that influenced the American Founders. Topics covered will be how Greek and Roman political thinkers, the clergy and religion, and other political philosophers informed the Founding generation. We will feature presentations from scholars, daily discussions of primary source materials, as well as opportunities to explore pedagogical approaches in the classroom. Professors John P. Kaminski (UW-Madison) and Carl Richard (Lafayette) will be the featured speakers. The conference begins in the morning on Saturday April 4th and ends Sunday afternoon the 5th. Participants are expected to attend all of the scheduled sessions.
This conference is fully funded. Participants will be provided with single room accommodations at the Lowell Center and be reimbursed for meals and travel expenses.
All secondary school teachers are eligible to apply, but space is limited to 12 participants. Applications must be received by 20 March 2020.
