While in France, Jefferson fell much in love with Italian Maria Cosway, an accomplished artist and wife of artist Richard Cosway. John Kaminski, an expert on their relationship, argues that the correspondence between the two over decades gives us a window to the emotional mind of Jefferson like no other correspondence. The correspondence also comprises beautifully written letters that can be enjoyed on their own.
